Farming Projects
Black Economic Empowerment Farming in South Africa
For many years, South Africa has served as the gateway into Africa and the centre for Mavuno's business. Considerable natural resources and vast arable land has resulted in our involvement and commitment to the South African agricultural industry being extensive. Our vision for South Africa is to contribute to the process of transforming historically disadvantaged emerging black farmers into successful commercial farmers. We concentrate primarily on irrigation farms producing maize, wheat, sunflowers and soybeans and get involved at every level of the process.
Our services include the following:
- Comprehensive Project Planning and Development
We become involved from the early development stages of analyzing soils, identifying crop suitability, investigating market potential and putting together comprehensive business plans.
- Organisational Planning
Once we have identified suitable candidates among the owners/beneficiaries of farms, we provide business leadership and production mentoring skills on a short- to long-term basis.
- Mentoring Services
Our association with a wide variety of consultants and our in-house skills allow us to offer high quality mentoring services in the following:
 |
Production and on-the-job training. |
 |
The sourcing of quality seeds, fertilizer, chemicals and equipment, ensuring maximum production at the lowest prices. |
 |
Human resource policies. |
 |
Financial and budgetary control. |
 |
Marketing. |

- Training Services
Extensive training is essential if farmers are eventually going to be self-sufficient. We provide on the job training and offer short courses through our collaboration with various training institutions, aid organizations and commodity suppliers.
Courses include maintenance of implements, organizational skills and leadership, time management, finance, crop specific courses and more.
- Financing and Grants
Mavuno liaises with Government, local and international aid organisations to ensure that emerging farmers get the grants that they qualify for. Furthermore, we act as agents for finance institutions that provide short- and long-term finance for equipment and inputs.
Corporate Farming The purpose of corporate projects is to introduce value-added agro-processing facilities. We lease large portions of unused, unoccupied land from African countries such as Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia for the purpose of grain production.
Contract Farming
We enter into production agreements with existing farmers to help improve production. We provide a complete range of advisory services and input items such as tractors and other equipment that many farmers can't afford. The final crop is then shared between Mavuno and the farmer.
Bio-fuels
With the rising cost of oil, the instability of the oil producing countries and the worldwide concern for climate change, Bio-fuels are fast becoming popular. Not only are they environment friendly, but production of Bio-fuels will have an enormous impact on job creation in rural areas and the development of agro-industrial centres. Mavuno investigates opportunities to produce feed stocks for these projects across Africa.
