Recent political and economic global developments have served to make agriculture a lucrative and safe investment haven. In the field of exports particularly, opportunities are arising that Africa could be well positioned to take advantage of, considering the following factors:

The sub-prime crisis in the USA saw commodities emerging as the only safe investment. World grain stocks have fallen to their lowest levels in 25 years, leaving the World Trade Organisation little option but to introduce a fairer, more open global trading system to give African farmers greater opportunities to grow. Rising prices and falling output of essential grains is causing many grain producing nations to consider outright bans on exports, opening up the market to those who will still consider it. Once major grain exporters such as Australia, EU and China are being forced to reduce exports and even import due to climate change, population growth, limited land area and other factors.

These are just a few of the conditions that make us believe that grain prices will keep on rising, export opportunities will keep on growing and grain production in Africa will become a viable and successful investment opportunity.
